The drawing to the right is the City of Walnut Creek’s preliminary design selection. The design and components of the facility are still being developed. The council has stated the city will only rebuild the current 50-meter pool if WCAF raises half the construction cost. Otherwise, the City will replace the current 50 meter x 25 yard pool (20 lanes) with a 30 meter x 25 yard pool (9 lanes). The proposed design eliminated the 25-meter diving well altogether.
With the donation of $3 million dollars by the Walnut Creek Aquatic Foundation, it is anticipated that the facility will include:
- 50 meter x 25 yard competition pool (same size as current main pool at Heather Farm)
- Leisure pool with slides, spray ground, recreational play features, and lanes for lessons
- Possibly a wellness center and therapy pool (tbd – project still under study and development)
The three swim teams that train at Heather Farm year-round are actively involved in the Walnut Creek Aquatic Foundation and stand ready to help the city fundraise to renovate the facility so that the tradition of aquatics in Walnut Creek can continue.
